Such Ones As Us
Ellen has been chronicling her life and impressions on her blog, Such Ones As Us, since 2007. Readers have described her style as “richly descriptive yet without any unnecessary sentimentality” and “both ethereal and dark in the most beautiful of ways”. Read about her 3rd grade adventures in being wrong about things, her memories of a dear aunt, and a dream she had in which she started a support group for violinists.
Published Writing
Ellen’s personal histories have been featured twice in Richmond’s Style Weekly. Both pieces look back on her formative orchestral experiences—with the Portland Youth Philharmonic and at the Brevard Music Center—and their influence on her professional life as a violinist.

Educational Programs
Since 2015, Ellen has created four unique educational programs which have been performed by the Richmond Symphony’s String Quartet in schools throughout the Richmond area. Each program is a story interspersed with performances by the string quartet.
Ady’s American Adventure, about a boy who immigrates to the United States in the 1920s on a quest to discover American music.
Susy’s Birthday, a sequel/prequel to Ady’s American Adventure in which Ady’s daughter learns the history of Ady’s violin.
Jonathan’s Tall Tale, a completely original story about a boy who disobeys his grandfather and takes a rowboat out onto a lake by himself.
Stickeen, an adaptation of John Muir’s account of his harrowing adventure with a small dog.
In January of 2020, Ellen published Ady’s American Adventure so that it could be performed by other string quartets. It has already sold several copies all over the United States.
